Activities in the Allgäu

The Alpsee in Immenstadt is one of the most beautiful lakes in the Allgäu. Crystal-clear water, sandy beaches and water sports make it a popular summer destination.

The Grünten, the 'Guardian of the Allgäu', stands at 1,738 m above the region. Well-maintained hiking trails lead to the summit with spectacular views across the Allgäu.

The Viehscheid (Almabtrieb) in September is one of the Allgäu's most beautiful traditional festivals: festively decorated cattle return from their summer pastures on the alpine meadows down to the valley. In villages such as Bad Hindelang, Obermaiselstein and Gunzesried the event is celebrated with hearty festivals, music and market stalls – an unforgettable piece of living alpine tradition.

The Allgäu is a paradise for cycling and mountain biking: easy valley paths along the Iller river, demanding mountain trails and plenty of e-bike rental stations. Routes for every level start right at your doorstep.

The golf courses at the Sonnenalp Resort in Ofterschwang offer two well-kept layouts amid gently rolling Allgäu hills – from the 18-hole championship course to a practice area for beginners. Play surrounded by mountain panoramas, just minutes from Das Alpiente.

Around Oberstdorf and in snow-sure Balderschwang, hundreds of kilometres of perfectly groomed trails await for both classic and skating styles. Balderschwang is considered one of Germany's most snow-reliable cross-country areas.
