The Viehscheid (Almabtrieb) in September is one of the Allgäu's most beautiful traditional festivals: festively decorated cattle return from their summer pastures on the alpine meadows down to the valley. In villages such as Bad Hindelang, Obermaiselstein and Gunzesried the event is celebrated with hearty festivals, music and market stalls – an unforgettable piece of living alpine tradition.
